Title: Ultracold systems containing charges: an update
Abstract: In recent years, we have been studying two types of ultracold systems in which electric charges play a central role, namely hybrid atom-ion traps, and Rydberg electrons in ultracold gases. We present the progress we made on those two topics. We first review recent results on excited ultracold atoms interacting with ions and how the possible processes depend on the spin of the systems. We also extend a previous result on resonant scattering processes showing how the s-wave regime modulate the charge transfer cross section at higher temperatures. We show that a simple formula can explain the behavior over a large range of energies. For the second topic, we explore how Rydberg electrons could be employed as a probe of their surroundings. We also show how exotic systems such as Efimov states could be studied using Rydberg electrons.
