TITLE: SMEFT : theory and applications at LHC
ABSTRACT: In this talk, we will discuss the Standard Model effective field theory (SMEFT), a very powerful tool to accommodate deviations to the SM parameters and fields in a gauge-invariant and perturbatively consistent way.
The SMEFT can be used to re-calculate well known SM observables such as cross sections and decay branching-ratios, and compare this “enhanced” predictions with the experimental measurements.
Both deviations from SM predictions and the lack of them can be used to set bounds on the effective operators, helping us to find the privileged directions for the new physics effects that originate in the high energy regimes.
We will discuss in detail the QFT aspects of the SMEFT calculations, in particular the generalisation to higher perturbative orders. We will also focus on the application of such calculations at LHC and HL-LHC,
in particular for the Higgs sector and the Vector Boson Scattering channels.
