Título: Scalable Fermionic Error Correction in 2D Majorana Surface Codes
Abstract: The Majorana Surface Code (MSC) is a topological quantum code constructed out of interacting Majorana fermions, which can be used to store quantum information and perform topological quantum computation. In this talk, we show how purely fermionic errors, such as quasiparticle poisoning (QP), can be corrected provided the error rate is below a certain threshold. For physical realizations where QP is highly suppressed, and bosonic errors become dominant, we find a much higher error threshold than the one for spin-based topological memories like the Surface Code or the Color Code. In addition, we derive new lattice gauge theories to account for measurement errors in the MSC. These results together with the inherent protection against thermal fluctuations given by the superconducting gap and the conservation of fermion parity makes the MSC a strong candidate for a robust topological quantum memory
